New welcome for visitors planned at Wimpole Hall
Caroe Architecture with Dominic Cole Landscape Architects have submitted a planning application on behalf of the National Trust for a new Visitor Welcome Building and car park at Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire.
The task, set by the National Trust, is to remove the existing car park from the nationally important Grade I Registered Parkland and improve the visitor experience of arriving at Wimpole, one of the Trust’s most popular properties.
It has been a phenomenal team effort. The project so far has been complex and rewarding in equal measure, with archaeology including a Late Iron Age and Roman settlement and Scheduled Monument, a significant designed landscape and diverse ecology all playing their part. Not to mention the sheep who made the use of surveyors’ pegs rather tricky!
A big thank you to the entire client and design team for their commitment to the project over the past months and to the consultees who have informed the developing design. We hope that this project will help the National Trust with their cause to preserve and protect this special place ‘for ever, for everyone’.
